TERMS 1 & 2 2010

Numeracy.
We will be recognising and writing numbers to 20 and
completing simple addition and subtraction. We will be investigating missing numbers and working with money up to 10p. We will be starting to tell the time and counting on in twos and tens.
Literacy.
We will be learning to segment, blend and write simple words. We will be learning to read simple stories independently, point while reading and match the words said and read. We will begin to write simple sentences using full stops correctly. We will write simple poetry, act out several stories and experience different genres of writing.
Science.
Our two topics this term are recognising and sorting materials, and light. We will be looking at what different objects are made from and sorting them using different criteria. We will also be looking at the properties of different materials and why objects are made from that material. As part of our topic on light we look at different light sources, comparing how bright different light sources are and looking at the materials light will and will not travel through.
I.C.T.
We will be learning to name parts of a computer and discuss the uses of a computer. We will using a mouse to place items accurately on a screen. We will learn to become more familiar with the keyboard layout. We will be using a word bank to make labels and build sentences.
P.E.
In games - we will be throwing and catching, rolling and bouncing several pieces of equipment. In gymnastics
- we will be travelling around the floor and apparatus in various ways, introducing jumping and landing. In dance - we will be building up a story using movement, role-play, and expression of feelings.
R.E.
We will be learning about Judaism and Christianity focusing on what is important to them
We will be looking at different religious festivals as part of our topic on ‘Celebrations’.
We will then be focussing on Christmas. We will look at why it is a special time for Christians and why gifts are given.
P.S.H.E.
We will be talking about ourselves, who we are, where we are going and what we are good at. Friendship, special people and how to have a happy class will also be discussed.
Creative Curriculum:
We will be covering History, Geography, Music, Art and Design Technology as part of our Creative Curriculum. In Term 1 our topic will be ‘Houses and Homes’ and in Term 2 it will be ‘Celebrations’. As part of our topic on ‘Houses and Homes’ we will be looking at the different houses in the UK as well as around the World. We will be looking at homes in the past and we will be designing and making a model house. We will be looking at different celebrations both in the UK and around the World. We will compare the ways different countries and cultures celebrate important holidays and festivals. We will look at music, decorations and the reasons for the celebration. The children will be given opportunities to play a key role in the planning and in their learning for each topic.
