Welcome to Class 2
TERMS 1 & 2 2010
Literacy
This term we will be studying the structure and features of stories and will be using connectives to link ideas together. We will focus on various characters, including those from traditional tales, and will be thinking about the actions they undertake and the feelings they have. In addition we will look at non-fiction texts and will be writing our own set of instructions.
Numeracy
Our class will be investigating number sequences, ordering and properties of numbers, developing addition and subtraction strategies, money and time in ‘real life’ situations, 3-D shapes and describing position, direction and movement we will also be working on the concepts of multiplication and division, fractions and handling data.
Science
Term 1-We will begin the term by thinking about ‘Ourselves’ where we will be considering what happens to us as we grow. We will then move onto researching various animals and will be thinking about their babies and the way that they move.
Term 2-We will explore forces and movement, finding out about pushing and pulling and making things start and stop as well as describing different movements.
I.C.T.
We will be covering work using text and pictures through the use of a word processor to produce sentences aiding the ability to use the mouse and keyboard.
P.E.
As a class in gymnastics we will be travelling in different ways using various parts to make ourselves high or low, in games we are developing our throwing and catching skills moving onto inventing our own games. In our dance sessions we will be expressing ourselves through our movement to various styles of music.
R.E.
For the first two terms we are studying Hinduism; we will find out about the fact that they believe in one God who takes on different forms. We will focus on ‘Ganesha’ and his importance to the Hindu religion. We will then move onto reading different stories that are important to Hindus, such as ‘Rama and Sita’.
PSHE
We are going to begin the year by focussing on new beginnings; thinking of class rules that will make the new school year run smoothly. We will then think about the ways in which we can welcome a new child or visitor to the class. Next we will think about what makes a good friend and ways in which we can make others feel happy. We will also learn that people have different perspectives and that it is important to consider both sides.
Creative Curriculum:
Our topic in term one will be based on ‘London’. We will begin by thinking about what we already know about the topic and will use different sources, such as books to find the answers to questions we have posed. We will then look at the types of transport used in London and will design and make a bus of the future. We will also consider the various buildings found in the city and will create a model of one out of clay. Next we will find out about The Great Fire of London and will be considering the main causes of the event as well as the importance of the eye-witnesses.
In term two we will be finding out about ‘space’. We will learn about the first moon landing and will design and make our own rockets. We will also create our own musical compositions that represent a journey to space.
