Class 5's Noun Rap Praised by BAFTA

Children from Class 5 with teacher Mr Blomfield were invited to present their Noun Rap as part of the school's digital creativity work for Teacher TV, national press and visitors throughout a special day at BAFTA. They joined a handful of other schools and colleges around the country who had also been chosen to take in an event called 'Be Very Afraid II' organised by Professor Stephen Heppell.

The rap came out of literacy lessons where pupils had experienced difficulties remembering parts of speech and examples of their use. The ‘Noun Rap’ provided a way of chanting grammar in a way that was less formal and more fun for the pupils in Class 5 to remember. The children turned their classroom into a recording studio during science lessons and created their own storyboards and CD covers. Miss Cave helped to choreograph a dance routine.

Class 5 pupils Amber and Rebecca travelled up to BAFTA with school governor Mrs Parkes and their teacher Mr Blomfield to represent the school. Amber said:
"I was lucky enough to be chosen along with Rebecca to go to London to represent the school. It was great to get to use all the school's new equipment in class to make the video and to have the experience of visiting BAFTA. A film crew followed us around all day and are making it into a DVD and school program which will be shown on Teacher TV".

Mr Blomfield said, "Their work was stunning. Because it was produced for a real audience they worked all the harder. A lot of other schools and teacher training colleges have asked for copies of the Noun Rap to use with their students.”
